Traces to the Music Publishers Holding Corporation, formed in 1928-29 when Warner Bros. Pictures acquired M. Witmark & Sons, Harms Inc., Jerome H. Remick's catalog, and New World Music to secure film-music copyrights. Over the following decades it grew through further acquisitions -- including Birch Tree Group (1988) and CPP/Belwin, the former Columbia Pictures print-music arm (1994) -- into the world's largest print-music publisher. In 2005, Warner Chappell Music sold this print division to Alfred Music.
