About this archive

Guy Wood is a retired Louisiana band director who, over the course of his career, kept an unusually complete personal record of the school band programs he was part of — reel-to-reel tape, VHS, vinyl, sheet music, catalogs, magazines, correspondence, photographs, and floppy disks, spanning several schools and decades. He also served a term as president of the Louisiana Music Educators Association.

That collection was nearly discarded during a routine clean-out of storage space. It was taken in and kept intact instead. This site exists to catalogue what was recovered — piece by piece, box by box — and to make it possible for people who were actually there to help fill in what a catalogue record alone can't: who's in a photograph, what a program was for, where a tape was recorded.

What started as one collection has grown past it. The archive's focus now is school band history and sheet music more broadly — Louisiana is where it started and where most of what's catalogued so far comes from, but not a limit on what it collects going forward.

Contributions are reviewed before anything is published or changed. New accounts start with read and comment access; once a submission is approved, you're automatically promoted to contributor.

This project is independent. Guy Wood's history with the Louisiana Music Educators Association is part of the record it documents, but the archive itself is not operated by, funded by, or affiliated with LMEA.
