Founded in 1919 by Jack Mills, joined by his brother Irving. Became a major champion of jazz and Black songwriters, notably launching Duke Ellington's publishing relationship. Sold in 1965 and merged with Belwin in 1969 to form Belwin-Mills; the catalog passed through Columbia Pictures Publications, EMI, and Warner Bros. Publications before landing with Alfred Music (2005) and, separately, Sony Music Publishing.
